Hartford-New Britain Busway Station Area Planning Project, Hartford, CT [project web site]

CSS studied the development potential for twelve stations on the Hartford-New Britain Busway. The station areas in the four towns vary greatly, and include residential neighborhoods as well as both active and underutilized commercial and industrial districts and downtowns.

We designed an intensive community participation process with elements ranging from individual stakeholder meetings to neighborhood open houses to gain consensus from the numerous and disparate stakeholders around each of the stations.

As a first phase, CSS was asked to review and revise a commercial development proposal for an 82-acre site adjacent to the Flatbush Avenue Station. The proposed revisions were designed to incorporate Transit Oriented Development design principles, making the development more pedestrian and transit friendly.
