North Nashua River Master Plan, Fitchburg MA for the MA Department of Fish and Game

The North Nashua River in Fitchburg winds its way through seven miles of open space, existing and former industrial properties and downtown. CSS prepared a master plan to generate and renew interest in the river as a valuable resource for Fitchburg residents. The plan provides a framework for future planning and design work, focusing on seven types of opportunities:

• Public access to the river
• Visual access to the river
• Rehabilitation of adjacent buildings and brownfields
• New and improved riverfront open space
• Opportunities to tell the story of the river and its industrial history
• Improving river health and connectivity
• Programs and events to raise public awareness CSS conducted an all day public workshop as part of the planning process.
