CSS provided urban design and landscape architecture services on a number of traffic calming and infrastructure projects for the City of Cambridge, including the Fresh Pond Parkway and Citywide Traffic Calming. Common elements in all of these projects included planning and design of a wide range of measures aimed at "righting the balance" between vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists, while at the same time respecting and enhancing business district or neighborhood needs. The projects improved pedestrian and bicyclist environments; enhanced elements for way-finding; created new open and programmable spaces and better traffic flow; increased activity along sidewalks; and created new opportunities for public art.
