A new intermodal transportation center in downtown Minneapolis is envisioned both as a nexus of a number of existing and proposed transportation services and as an integral part of future downtown development. The site is at the downtown terminus of the Hiawatha light rail line and will also serve Northstar and Red Rock commuter rail corridors, the Midwest Rail Initiative's high speed route between Chicago and Minneapolis and local bus service. It is flanked by the Minnesota Twins' baseball stadium and the dynamic historic warehouse district. The transportation center has to integrate vehicular and pedestrian transportation and create a gateway to downtown Minneapolis with a visible presence, all with a small building on a small site. CSS's siting and feasibility study assessed station and staging/storage track requirements and locations, as well as joint development and transit oriented development opportunities. CSS was recently hired to conduct the next phase of the project.
