Mystic Riverbend Park

Medford, MA

The design of shoreline and recreational space improvements along the Mystic River provides Medford with a significant open space that evokes the city’s rich natural and cultural history. Specifically, the plan preserves and enhances existing ecological communities and habitats, improves access to adjacent communities and neighborhoods, and encourages a variety of passive recreational opportunities, such as canoeing, biking, bird watching, and hiking. In addition, the design invites visitors and residents to experience the river edge environment from a variety of informal vantage points and gathering spaces. The development of entry spaces and a signage system was integral to the success of the park.
