|North End Parks|
|Client: Massachusetts Turnpike Authority|
As part of the Rose Kennedy Fitzgerald Greenway, the North End Parks transformed the former space beneath the Central Artery Viaducts. The three acre North End Parks reclaimed this land creating a much loved park for Boston's North End while forming a threshold between downtown to the North End neighborhood. A wide porch along the neighborhood edge provides a lively space for the North End's active street life and forms a viewing platform for the rest of the park and the larger city. The reconnection of three major streets and Boston's Freedom Trail into the North End reconnects this vital neighborhood and brings many people through this welcoming threshold park. The North End Parks include an interpretive program consisting of bronze leaning rails with quotes capturing the history of the site and granite features marking topographical and archaeological information, creating a space which contemplates Boston's past and present. This project was designed in association with Gustafson Guthrie Nichol Ltd.
