| Biddeford Mill District Master Plan |
| About the Project |
| The
Mill District is at a critical point in its redevelopment and future evolution
as a useful commercial/industrial and possibly residential site. Once a thriving
19th century textile mill complex, the area now represents a variety of uses,
including an active blanket factory, offices, artist studios, fitness and martial
arts studios, and many smaller "creative economy" and industrial uses. Residential
and institutional uses have also been envisioned, and are currently being explored
by both the City and existing mill owners. | The Plan will enable the City to ensure than any future redevelopment is complementary, as well as sensitive, to the river environment; to existing public, cultural, and historic amenities that help to create the City's special character; and to the public's desire for visual and physical access to the Saco River. The Plan will also address the limited vehicular and pedestrian access to and within the Mill District. PROJECT AREA MAP [click for PDF] Funding for this Plan was provided by a $59,751 grant from the federal Economic Development Administration (EDA) and the City of Biddeford's TIF Program. | |
