The
Windsor Riverfront redevelopment project encompasses 70 acres of abandoned
and underutilized industrial properties stretching along the Connecticut
River, adjacent to downtown Windsor.
The
Plan includes an active mixed-use district, directly linking a new riverfront
park to the existing Main Street commercial core. This district includes
a hotel and conference center as well as small scale retail, restaurants,
and artist studios, with housing above. The site plan provides views
to the river from downtown and the new development, as well as views
to Mount Ascutney to the west and the Cornish-Windsor Covered Bridge,
the longest covered bridge in the country. Two new parks link to a riverfront
path system.
New
tree-lined roads connect the mixed use district to downtown and a new
light industrial districts geared to resource based and resource-recovery
businesses such as fine woodworking and products from recycled materials
– as well as other more traditional light industrial uses. These uses
provide tax revenues and jobs, a major goal of the project.
