On a beautiful, sunny summer morning, Executive Office of Energy and Environment Secretary Kathleen Theoharides, DCR Commissioner Jim Montgomery, State Representative Dan Hunt, Acting Mayor Kim Janey and City Councilor Frank Baker, along with neighborhood kids, cut the ribbon to this renovated playground designed by CSS. The playground is located in Pope John Paul II Park built in 1998 along the Neponset River, a site reclaimed from a former landfill, drive-in theater and lumber yard. The park is now a major recreational destination for the region.
