238 Broadway

Cambridge, MA

Description

The demolition of two buildings, and the removal of a street that intersected the park site, created a large contiguous space for the development of this significant park in a dense urban neighborhood much in need of open spaces. The west edge of the site is a fragrant plant border, providing beauty as well as a visual buffer between the park and its neighbors while an informal field allows for pickup games and casual play. Other elements include a water feature, playground and sculptural garden, creating activity, movement and a place to cool off in hot weather, as well as opportunities for imaginative play and a quiet place to read. The park retains its tennis court and community gardens. The park is the site of three public art installations, integrated with the overall park design. Construction of the park was completed in 2008.
