Boylston Street

Boston, MA

Part of a trio of priority projects in Boston’s Fenway area, the reconstruction of Boylston Street is happening in conjunction with several major mixed-use developments along Boylston Street – creating a shift from a vehicle dominated strip development pattern to an enriched pedestrian environment consistent with Boston’s Complete Streets Initiative. Improvements to the road reconfiguration also will provide for bicycle travel between two sections of the Emerald Necklace. The streetscape design addresses Boylston Street as the major connecting street between the Back Bay Fens and the Riverway sections of this historic parkland. The work includes plantings that visually address the parkland connection and define a more meandering path of travel for the pedestrian, new pavements, site furnishings, lighting, intersection treatments, and signage.
