Edgerly Playground

Boston, MA

The redesign of this small playground nestled in a residential block of Boston’s Fenway neighborhood envisions the park as a calling card to encourage new families to settle in the area while simultaneously fostering a partnership with the adjacent Berklee College of Music.

In order to maximize the footprint of the 5500 square foot parcel, each element is carefully considered and crafted to provide the greatest combination of play value, artistry, and security. The design lifts the grade of the existing park between 18” and 36” to increase visual connection with Berklee’s courtyard to the north and to provide a fully accessible park; a unique tiered rubber topography becomes part of the play program. New play structures and a sculptural water feature were selected with community input and a custom musical graphic in the rubber surfacing signifies a fun and contextually appropriate new space.
