Description

Since the beginning of the 20th century, Magazine Beach has served as one of Cambridge’s primary outdoor recreational areas on the Charles River. CSS drew from the site’s rich cultural and natural history and a careful site analysis to design a variety of improvements including a multi-use pathway along Memorial Drive, a gathering space beneath the historic canopy, extensive river-edge habitat restoration, new play areas, ball fields and improvements to pedestrian and vehicular circulation. Sustainable solutions including permeable paving, native plantings, habitat forming storm water basins, and parking lot BMP’s to clean and infiltrate run off have been implemented.
