Description
The North Nashua River in Fitchburg winds its way through seven miles of open space, existing and former industrial properties and downtown. CSS prepared a master plan to generate and renew interest in the river as a valuable resource for Fitchburg residents. The plan provides a framework for future planning and design work, focusing on seven types of opportunities:
• Public access to the river
• Visual access to the river
• Rehabilitation of adjacent buildings and brownfields
• New and improved riverfront open space
• Opportunities to tell the story of the river and its industrial history
• Improving river health and connectivity
• Programs and events to raise public awareness
As part of the planning process, CSS conducted a day-long public workshop that served to strengthen the final master plan.
