Peters Park

Boston, MA

Description

One of the most diverse destination parks in the South End neighborhood, the 3.7 acre Peters Park features a Little League field, basketball, handball and tennis courts, an enclosed children’s play area, neighborhood gardens, a beloved dog recreation area, and two public art pieces. Due to the park’s size and the breadth of its program, improvements to the park were designed to retain elements that could be renewed in place. In order to clarify and improve the park’s organization, a new circulation system was incorporated and the dog recreation area and court facilities were relocated to provide for improved visibility into the park and a more attractive park edge along Washington Street. Existing facilities – including new plantings, play equipment, fencing, paving, lawns, lighting and site amenities – have served to rejuvenate the park and increase accessibility for all users in this dense urban neighborhood.
