Description
The transformation of the former St. John’s School into loft-style apartments called for a landscape that was both intimate in detail and communal in program. A central lawn, flanked by lush sun and shade gardens, provides ample community gathering space and acts as a welcoming forecourt to the residential buildings behind it. Sunken courtyards are carved out of the existing building framework using sustainably harvested hardwoods, perennial plantings, and soft lighting to provide intimate deck spaces for residents. The project incorporates many sustainable design features and is registered with the U.S. Green Building Council, with the certification goal of LEED Platinum.
