Description
Looking for a bold and implementable master plan for its South Campus landscape, The University of Massachusetts Lowell hired CSS to develop the UMass Lowell’s South Campus Master Plan and work with a university task force and to develop the schematic design of several significant open spaces. This next phase of work continues the University’s legacy of transformation and growth, from the South Campus’ single-building beginning as Lowell State College to the now multi-dimensional offerings of formal and informal learning spaces, residence halls, arts, and dining. This landscape master plan will provide visioning and direction to:
- Create a heart for the South Campus
- Respond to the unique pedestrian and vehicular needs of campus users
- Improve existing gateways to the campus
- Respect the context of the campus surroundings, including both the urban context and location on the banks of the Merrimack River
